Local Search & Google Maps

Local customers are looking online. Will they find you?

The internet has been successful at connecting global users, but there is a growing trend in "hyperlocal" web activity – the use of the web for people to find local businesses or information. Google has responded to this trend with the Google Local Business Center, which allows local businesses to add themselves to maps and appear high in search results of local keywords. As the mobile web grows, the local trend will become even more important. Unfortunately, many local businesses are ignoring the local potential under the assumption that global clients use the web while local clients use the phone book. That may have been true a few years ago, but it's not true anymore. There are two big trends in search right now:

Google Maps

Google Maps are playing an increasingly important part of organic local search results. While global clients might not care where you are located, local clients do care and Google is rising to the occasion by providing maps that clearly mark where local businesses are situated. Is yours marked?
